Earliest school in Pentwater

Does anyone know what year the first public school opened in Pentwater? My grandfather, Patrick Hartnett, lived there from c.1871 to 1874 or 1876. He was 5 years old in 1871.
If a school did exist at that time, are there any records anywhere of the students names?
