George Wilson (ca. 1808-1883) & Harriett (Soper) Wilson (ca. 1811-1881)
Searching for my great-great grandparents GEORGE WILSON and HARRIETT SOPER, Oakland County pioneers.George was born at Lincolnshire, England in about 1808.As a young man he came to America and located in Genesee County, NY where he engaged in farming and eventually married Harriett Soper of Greece, Genesee County, NY.Sometime before 1837 they removed to Oakland County, Michigan where George entered a land claim of 160 acres. There they had 5 children, two boys and three girls, four of whom are believed to have lived through childhood. The eldest is believed to have been named George; then William, born in Oakland County in 1837; then Sarah, born about 1843; then Harriett, born about 1847; and finally Jane, born about 1850.
William Wilson, my great grandfather, settled in Yamhill County, Oregon in 1876; but his parents are still found in the Oakland County, Michigan census records in 1870 and 1880.George Wilson is believed to have died at age 75, or about 1883; and Harriett is believed to have died at age 70, or about 1881.It is unknown whether their other children remained in the Oakland County/Pontiac area as adults, or whether George and Harriett are buried near where they lived for 40-plus years.
I hope to visit the area in September this year in search of family history and I would be extremely pleased to hear from anyone having any information whatsoever about this family.
