Millis/Todd/Lee Families of Oakland Co., MI

Hello,

I am looking for information on a Millis family who lived in the Pontiac, Oakland Co., MI area .

My relative, Joseph Todd, Jr., was in the group of the first settlers of Oakland County, Michigan. He was born in 1765 in New York and died in Bloomfield, Oakland Co., MI in 1848. His first wife, and the mother of his children, was Julia Johnson. Julia died in 1843 in Oakland Co., MI. They are both buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Oakland Co., MI.

After Julia died, Joseph married (2) Patty Lee, 21 Sep 1843. Patty was born in either New Hampshire or Connecticut 05 Oct 1775 and died 19 Mar 1864, age 88, in Oakland Co., MI. Patty was the widow of Joseph Lee. Joseph Lee was born 08 Apr 1775 and died 07 Mar 1838 in Oakland Co., MI, age 62.

After Joseph Todd, Jr. died, his widow, Patty Lee/Todd went to live with John D. Millis and family. I am wondering how Patty was related to them.

The 1850 Michigan Census showed Patty Todd, age 74, living with the J. D. Millis family in Bloomfield, Oakland Co., MI.

The 1860 Michigan Census showed Patty Todd, age 83, living with John D. Millis in Pontiac, Oakland Co., MI. John was 40 and a produce dealer. His wife, Frances, was 35, Harritte [sic] was 10, Elmon P. was 8, Frank L. was 5 and Fred M. was 3.

The 1870 Michigan Census showed John Millis, 52, produce merchant. Fanny was 42, b. NY, Hattie 22, at home, b. MI; Almore 20, at school, Frank 16, b. MI at school and Fred 12 was at school. Patty was dead by this time.

I assumed Frances/Fanny must have been Patty's daughter, but then I found an article in the Biographical Record of Oakland Co., MI. It said, "John D. Millies was born in 1822 and was married 17 Nov 1847 at Nelson, Portage Co., OH to Fannie Fuller, who was born in Leroy, Jefferson Co., NY in 1824. Very soon after their marriage they moved to Oakland Co., and resided in Bloomfield Twp., on what is now the Grayling farm. Mr. Millis died 29 Apr 1888. Mrs. Millis survived her husband's death 14 years, her decease occurring 08 Aug 1902 of heart disease. Mrs. Millis was survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ellsworth of Rose City, MI and Mrs. Earl of Saranac, MI, a brother, Berley Fuller, of Cleveland, OH, and by 3 sons, Elmore P., born in 1851, who is now a farmer in Lapeer Co., MI; Frank L. and Fred M., born 25 Mar 1859. A daughter, Hattie A., married E. H. Mead, of Sault Ste. Marie and died 21 Dec 1901. Mrs. Millis always lived a Christian life of gentleness, and was greatly missed by a large circle of friends. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church."

Sincerely,

Terri Mulliken Allen
