Death of Samuel Bowhall

The uncertainty of life and the immutable certainty of death was strikingly illustrated in the death of Samuel Bowhall Thursday morning at 3 o'clock. The previous day, full of vigorous life and buoyant hope, yet standing on the shores of death's fathomless ocean, to disappear beneath its surface before the dawn of another day.

The deceased had been troubled for some time with gravel although the immediate cause of death was heart failure, supposed to have been caused by morphine and administered to alleviate the pain from passing gravel. His dangerous condition was noticed within a few minutes of it's inception and physicians were summoned at once who did all in their power to arouse him but their efforts were futile and death resulted about four hours from the time the alarming symptoms developed

Samuel Bowhall was born in Hermon village New York in the year 1859. When five years old he came to Michigan with his parents, locating in the village of Cedar Springs, Kent County. The scenes of his business life hae been principally in Cedar Springs, Edmore, Grand Rapids and Lakeview, having lived in Lakeview the lst three years of his life, selling general merchandise. February 14, 1885 Samuel Bowhall and Mina E. Holmes were married at the residence of the bride's parents Wasau, Wis. and it has proved a most happy union. Since the marriage of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Holmes moved to Edmore where they now reside. Mr. Bowhall's father died several years ago and since that time he has made it a sacred duty to provide his widowed mother with, not only the necessities, but the luxuries of of life.

The remains will be taken to Cedar Springs for burial Saturday.

Lakeview Enterprise, May 10, 1895.
