The next census available is 1900. 1890 census burned in Washington, D.C. in the 1920's. Not much was saved. So your first step is to search the 1900 VA, and same county as the 1880 census (Goochland). Remember to add 20 years to their ages. He had 3 sons and 2 daughters.

A subscription to Ancestry.com or Genealogy.com would be the fastest way to find them. After all, the family could have moved again as well as all the children. Otherwise you will need to spend hours at the library searching through the microfilm files.

If using the microfilm files, your first task will be to search the soundex files for the surname Mason in VA. The soundex code for Mason is = M250. Ask the librarian for - 1900, Virginia, Goochland county. Once you find the Mason family you will need to write down the ED number (very important). Burdett was 50 in 1880 by 1900 he will be either 70 or deceased; Clara will be 60. Once you have the ED number the you need to search that microfilm file for the Mason family. This is very time consuming.

Search the internet using GOOGLE.com for the vital records office in Virginia. Look for Birth/death/marriage links.
A death certificate provides a great deal of personal info including cause of death, place of burrial, etc........ However you need to know the date of death or to be very close in a year range of the actual death.
