The deceased, Jacob MASTEN, was born Oct. 28, 1828, and died June 5, 1905. His parents were Abram and Esther Masten, who settled in this county at an early date. There were born to them ten children, seven sons and three daughters, of whom there are living on son, Davies, and two daughters, Mrs. Hooker, and Mrs. Slayton.
Jacob Masten married Susie Hanlon Aug. 21, 1851. From this union eight children were born: six daughters and two sons. They settled on this homestead fifty-one years ago. For many years the Indians were the chief inhabitants.
He bore life's troubles manfully, and with his kind heart and cheerful disposition made friends with all he met.
He leaves a widow, five daughters and two sons, 13 grand children, and a host of neighbors and friends to mourn his loss.
The funeral was held at his late residence by Rev. A. T. Camburn. The house was crowded by relatives, friends and neighbors.
