French-Canadian Heritage Chapter
Monroe County, Michigan now has its own chapter of the French-Canadian Heritage Society of Michigan, called the "Frenchtown Chapter".Our first meeting was held on January 29, 2000.We meet every third Saturday at the Ellis Reference and Information Center in Monroe at 1:00 p.m.We have our own webpage at: http://www.members.tripod.com/FCHS_FC/index.htmhttp://www.members.tripod.com/FCHS_FC/index.htm.This is a non-profit organization and our job is to preserve and promote the rich French-Canadian heritage and genealogy in Michigan.We are a chapter formed under the Detroit Chapter.June 3, 2000 is declared "Francois and Jacques Navarre Day" in honor of these brothers receiving the first deed of land that started Monroe County.Yes, these are the founders!We are searching for Navarre descendants to help us plan this event.Membership to the Frenchtown Chapter of the FCHSM is $20.00 per year (January-December)for an individual or family.Note children 15 and older can attend meetings.You can download a membership form at our webpage.If you live within driving range to Monroe for meetings please come.If you live outside of driving range you can also be a member.There is a journal published by the State organization four times a year that comes with your membership.
