Dora Parrish Fowler teaching in public schools, circa 1920
Can anyone tell me if Midland has a compilation of who taught in the public schools in the early 1900's (Gratiot recently published a book listing all of theirs, Yesterday's School Kids of Isabella County, A history of one-room schools in Isabella County, Michigan, by Jack R. Westbrook & Sherry S. Sponseller, 2009)
I am looking for my husband's grandmother Dora Parrish Fowler, who taught one year in Gratiot (1917-18). The 1920 census lists her and her husband O.S. Fowler, as living in two places
1. in Jasper, Midland, MI on the 5th of January
2. in Greendale, Midland, on January 15th, “lodgers” with a couple named Voorhies
In both records, Dora is listed as a teacher in the district or public schools. If you know anything about this or can point me to a good source, please respond.
Thanks Melissa Fowler
