Gary,
Here is an article that was posted in January. This is my g-grandfather.Would it be possible for you to make a copy of the article(s) from the Midland newspaper?(I believe the library there has them on microfilm). Also, if you can find out if I can get copies of the court records for his trial, I would love copies of those.I would pay you for the copy, mailing and your research fees.
"GENEVA FARMER UNDER ARREST
Josiah Jones of That Township Arrested Wednesday Afternoon on Daughter's Complaint Charged With Rape.
On complaint of his seventeen year old daughter, Pearl, Josiah Jones of Geneva township was arrested Wednesday afternoon, charged with rape. The family consisting of the father, mother and several children moved to Geneva from Ohio last April and reside on a farm near Coleman. In her complaint the girl stated that on or about September 10 and soon after the death of a child, born to her some nine months previously, which she allaged her father was the male parent of, the father entered the room where she with other children, was sleeping and, holding her by the throat to prevent an outcry, assaulted her. She also told other instances of like conduct by the parent. The man was lodged in the county jail and an examination will be held before Justice Rice very soon."
The Midland Sun of Thurday November 23, 1911 (pg 1) states that Jones was found guilty of assault with attempt to commit rape and was sentenced to serve 3 to 10 years at the state prison in Jackson.
