Hi Naomi,

As I gave you the 1900 census I will try to go back earlier than that for Richard Hicks. 1900 census says he arrived in US in 1873 so 1880 would be the only other US census where he would be found before 1900.

Richard, age 30, miner, born England parents born England

Louisa, age 26, wife, keeping house, born England parents born England

Edward, age 6, son, born IA parents born England

Richard T., age 1 month, son, born MI parents born England (born in May)

There is another Richard Hicks in Franklin in the 1880 census

Richard, age 52, miner, born England parents born England

Mary A ., age 51, wife, born England parents born England

E. Jane, age 18, daughter, born England parents born England

John, age 15, son, born England parents born England

as they are in same place as your Richard I think it possible these are his parents and siblings so will look for them in England

this seems to fit

Richard, age 44, miner, born Redmuth

Mary Ann, age 42, wife, born Stithians, Cornwall

Richard, age 22, son, engine driver, born Redruth

Thomas, age 19, miner, born Redruth

Mary Ann, age 14, daughter, scholar, born Redruth

Elizabeth Jane, age 8, daughter, scholar, born Redruth

John, age 7, son, scholar, born Redruth

I took a look to see if there was a marriage for a Richard Hicks in Cornwall from 1871 - 1873 when he was supposed to go to US

I didn't find any marrying a Louise or Louisa so they may have married in US

Richard , age 34, copper miner, born Redruth

Mary Ann, age 30, wife, born Redruth

Richard, age 12, son, copper miner lab., born Redruth

Thomas, age 9, son, copper miner lab., born Redruth

Mary A., age 4, daughter, born Redruth

Richard, age 25, copper miner, born Redruth

Mary A., age 20, wife, born Redruth

Richard, age 1, son, born Redruth

James, age 60, road labor, born Cornwall

Mary, age 60, born Cornwall

George, age 20, copper miner, born Cornwall

Richard, age 15, copper miner, born Cornwall

parents names for Richard Sr. fit with his death record

Michigan, Deaths and Burials Index, 1867-1995 about Richard Hicks
Name:       Richard Hicks
Birth Date:       abt 1827
Birth Place:       England
Death Date:       12 Sep 1885
Death Place:       Franklin Twp., Houghton, Michigan
Death Age:       58
Occupation:       Miner
Race:       White
Marital Status:       Married
Gender:       Male
Father Name:       James Hicks
Mother Name:       Mary Hicks
FHL Film Number:       1008265

I haven't found death yet for Richard (born about 1849) but there are deaths for some of his siblings

Mary Ann Glanville (Mary Ann Hicks) died March 28, 1892 Calumet MI parents Richard Hicks and Mary Ann - she was age 34, married

John Hicks, died May 14, 1893 Calumet, MI, parents Richard and Mary Hicks
he was single age 28

There is a death for a Mary Ann Hicks born about 1827 died Jan. 7, 1913 Calumet, Houghton

Michigan, Death Records, 1897-1920 about Mary Anne Hicks
Name:       Mary Anne Hicks
Birth Year:       1827
Death Date:       7 Jan 1913
Death Place:       Calumet, Houghton
Age:       85
Father's Name:       Henry Martin

but when I go to the database that had Richard I do not find her.
I just found her at Seeking Michigan which has the image of her death record
It shows she is a widow
born Nov. 16, 1827 England
Father Henry Martin, born England
Informant was Richard Hicks of Calumet

The database there goes from 1897-1920 so too late for Richard Sr. and I suppose to early for Richard Jr. and wife Louisa

There is a Mary Martin living in St. Stithians, Cornwall, born bout 1826 - most census show her born about 1830 but death said 1827 so this may be her

Father is Henry which matches with the death and St. Stithians does match with 1871 census place of birth, although others show Redruth - but then the 1841 says Reduth as registration district so it may just be the same place

Henry, age 45, farmer, born Cornwall

Jane, age 45

Mary, age 15

Edward, age 15

William, age 15

Jane, age 13

Emma, age 6

Louisa, age 4

all are shown as born Cornwall and yes, there are 3 children all shown as age 15.

I have not found the marriage for Richard and Mary Ann though.
