- shows the marriage as actually being Jan 1 1919
- he has a middle initial T
His birth I think is indexed as "Carl Truman Sadler", birthdate 28 Oct 1896, which makes him the same as the man who died in Ohio in 1966 (ssdi.rootsweb.com)
I would suggest you look into contacting the local library/history society for Lakewood. An obituary would be useful.
I can find an Olivia Sadler d. in Ohio in 1977, born November 1887, who matches up with an Olivia L. Hegerling b. Nov. 1887 in Ohio, but she seems to be at least in the 1930 census (and on her parents' death certificates in 1933) as "Williams" - husband Edward C. Williams.

- this is very suspicious.
"Edward C. Williams" is of about the age of Carroll Sadler, also b. Michigan and "Annette E Williams" has the same birthplace and approximate birthdate as Caroll's mother Annette.
"Annette E Williams" death certificate is shown on the familysearch site. She died in 1941, a widow, husband is shown as Edward B, parents as Ezra Raynor and Charlotte Potter, info given by Edward C. Williams.
This is the same parents' info given by "Annette E. Raynor" when she married Edward B. Sadler.
Given the name change there might not have been any official divorce papers.
