I am looking for information about my husbands grandmother named Mildred Olga Striney born 6 Jan 1908 in Elyria, Ohio. She died 10 Jun 1977 in Hillman, Mi or Traverse City, MI. Her son Charlie Hubbard said he grew up knowing her mom never knew her birth parents she was adopted and that her birth last name was Striney. She was adopted, but we are not sure at what age. What is interesting is on Charlie's brother Glen's birth certificate it shows her maiden name as Vaughn. I found one census record with this at age 2 in Cleveland Ward 2, Cuyahoga, Ohio in 1910, but I am not possitive it is her. I cannot find a 1920 census record for her. She was adopted at some point to Charles Roth b. 1898 est. Penn and Grace Roth b. 1894, Ohio, in which she is found on a 1930 census record and married to John W. McKay b. 4 Feb 1906 Tenn d. June 1973, TN. Then in early to mid 1930's she married Howard Glen Hubbard b. 6 Dec 1901 in Michigan where they lived and had 3 children, Glen, Donna and Charles (my father-in-law) Recently we noticed on Glen's birth certificate Mildred's maiden name shows Vaughn not Striney. Does anyone have an idea why these two names would be different and if there is a way to find out the orphanage she was in when she was young? and if there are records for children in orphanages? She would probably have been in an Ohio orphanage in the early 1900's probably named Mildred Olga Striney. She may have some German heritage with her middle name. We are not sure where that came from because we do not know her birth family. Can anyone help point me in some other research directions? Does anyone online know who she was in Hillman, Mighigan? Thank you, Holly Hubbard Notify Administrator about this message?
