James W. GRIFFIN (1787-1873)was born in Dutchess Co., NY, but lived in Erie Co., NY, for several years. About 1832 he moved to Niles, Berrien Co., MI. He mar Catherine ABBOTT (1785-1825) and they were the parents of 1. Rachel (1811-1880), mar Richard McOMBER (1810-1897); 2. George W. (1812-1876), mar Rebecca M. HIGGINS; 3. Obadiah (1815-1852), mar Ruth M. SMITH, then Clarinda H. WARDEN; 4. Jonathan (1820-1850); 5. Ira M. (1821-1890); and 6. Hiram H. (1823-1893), who mar his brother Obadiah's widow, Clarinda H. WARDEN in 1855. The first two children were born in Ontario, Canada, and the others in Erie Co., NY.

Catherine ABBOTT, wife of James W. GRIFFIN, died in 1825 and James mar her sister, Sally ABBOTT, in 1827. Their children were 1. Catherine, b ca 1827; 2. Robert S. (1828-1805), mar Amanda M. HEWITT; 3. Marietta, b 1831, mar ___?___ BUOUY; 4. Charlott, b ca 1833, mar ___?___ CONKLIN; 5. and Albert J. (1838-1870+). All were born in Erie Co., NY.
