Hi Doreen,I can tell by reading some of your posts on other message boards that you are new at this whole genalogy thing. I don't know if I would refer to it being a blast. It was very frustrating and a learning experience for me. I encountered alot of dead-ends when I was researching my father's side of the family since he was born and left behind by his mother on a indian resevation in St. Ignace,Michigan. Later in his childhood he was adopted by a unmarried man from Sault Saint Marie,Michigan. When I first started looking up my parents families I only had my parents marriage record and a death certificate for both of them. Then I knew all to well I was in for a long ride.Census records were hard to make out, county clerks were rude, librarians were somewhat helpfful and sometimes I considered them airheads. There were times I felt like giving up and,I'm so glad I didn't or I would've never found what I did. We had bought a new car about the sametime I started my research. I think I added over 1500 extra miles driving from Lansing,Michigan to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan when the car only had 21 miles on it to begin with. Our phone bills were out of this world from calling several county courthouses, libraries, churches and, Indian tribes in the Michigan area. trying to find some leads. There was just no other way for me to do it. If I had a choice between becoming a new mother or doing family genealogy believe me motherhood would win. They're both done by amateurs and,I bet I'll get responses for that statement. Later on in all my searching I was referred to a Tribal Specialist who works at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the Soo who was a great help.Mother's Day weekend I recieved a huge packet in the mail. When I opened it up there was all kinds of vital records and such that related to my parents families.I didn't have time to look at the documentation to closely cause, I was on my way to a seminar regarding tracing Native American Ancestory. It was a beginners class but, it seems that a cousin of mine was teaching that class so I figured I may as well attend.Boy am I glad I went cause,I learned stuff I'd never thought of. I keep track of all my sources in a homemade record book so I know who, what, where and, how I got my information and who gave it to me. I give people alot of credit who are new beginners cause,I remeber what I went through.I've read some inconsiderate replies to someone else's posts and I don't think it's right. Not everyone has all the needed information when they post their queries on these message boards and some of these so-called know it alls have to understand that and remeber what they themselves with through. I better close for now before I say more then I should. I wish you alot of luck and hope your searches are fun ones. Cherie Tebo Notify Administrator about this message?
