Swansons of Ludington, MI 1879-1902

Looking for birth records and location of Parish in Sweden regarding my great grandfather, Charles G. Swanson. He was born 21 April 1857 (obituary and census) and immigrated to the US in 1879 and lived in Mason County in the Ludington, Michigan area.

I have not found a Charles G. Swanson in the Mormon Records born on the 21 Apr 1857. As I have been told there are not many Charles Swansons listed as being born in Sweden. There is, however, a Karl Oskar Svensson born on that date in Misterhult, Kalmar, Sweden. Perhaps, Charles changed his name when he came to this country?

Charles Swanson died 3 April 1930 in Ashland, WI. Obituary states that Johan, Ernest, Ray, and Anna along with a brother (unknown) in Ludington, MI survive to mourn the loss.

Through a parent search on the LDS site, Karl's brother is Otto Wilhelm Svensson born 26 Mar 1862 in Tuna, Kalmar, Sweden. Both Karl and Otto were born to Sven Magnus Jonsson and Carolina Jonsdotter Natt. They also had two sisters born in other places in Kalmar, Emma and Christina if those two names would be stated in an obituary.

My father believes that one son of Charles Swanson's brother (Charles’ brother was alive in Ludington at the time Charles died in 1930) was Victor Swanson. I think that I need to know Victor Swanson's father's name and records to be able to make a connection. This might help me confirm which part of Sweden they were from. Charles probably worked as a lumber handler at a mill.

With his first wife (unknown) Charles fathered Johan Emil Swanson (my grandfather). Johan is listed as being from Sweden (probably born in 1880) with immigration year given as 1881. Charles also fathered Anna Swanson (later married to ? Popp and then to Brown L. Snell). Charles and his first wife possibly had other children (Alek who worked as a cook on the Great Lakes)? Charles’ first wife died in about 1887 and is buried in a cemetery (unknown) along the shore of Lake Michigan in Ludington.

Charles married Anna Benson as his second wife and fathered Ernest born 18 August 1899. Charles, Anna and Ernest moved to Ashland, Wisconsin in 1902. Another son, Raymond Bernhardt was born 23 February 1902.

Anna Benson Swanson died on 12 October 1906 of TB and is listed at 36 years old. So, according to her death record, she was born in 1870 and her parents were listed as Bernard and Anna Benson. I need and appreciate any help with one or all of the unknowns!

Johan Emil Swanson also married a first wife (unknown) in Ludington. I am not sure of when the first wife died. I have been told that they had a son, Vernon Swanson (half - brother of my father and his siblings - most of whom were born in Ashland). My father said that Vernon would visit them in Baraga, Michigan.

I would like to be able to get Charles', his brother's, and/or Johan Emil Swanson's Naturalization Papers but I do not know of the year in which they may have submitted for them.

This is an attempt to find the correct family in Sweden. Again, thank you for any information you may be able to provide!
