Shar, I looked at the Morton Salt Co. website and it had the Manistee salt operation aquired in 1931. My great-grandfather Frank B. Annis died in 1918. The family story is that he did indeed work for the Morton Salt Company--I don't know?? I am trying to find employee records for him even though I know that it is a long shot. He died when my grandmother was young so I didn't hear much about him. On his death record his occupation is listed as Stationary Engineer which I understand is part of mining operations. I am way too far from Michigan now and am looking forward to a trip to the Manistee area, I just don't know when. The museum says on it's website that calls are ok, but I don't want to bug them too much--I know they aren't family researchers. :-) Thanks for all your replies!! Sarah C.
