I just found a biography of Thurston Simmons on pages 67-68 in a book entitled, "American biographical history of eminent and self-made men : Michigan volume". Cincinnati: Western Biographical Pub. Co., 1878, 984 pgs. It says that Thurston Simmons was the son of Samuel and Amy (Beals) Simmons. He was born on Nov. 23, 1818 in Marion, Wayne Co., New York. His father, Samuel, died before 1833 when Thurston moved with his mother and two brothers to Oakland Co., Michigan. His other two sisters had already married and moved there previously. He went back to Marion, Wayne Co., New York, when he was 19 years old and married Hannah Sawyer, daughter of James Sawyer. After a couple of years, he and his wife went to Conway, Livingston Co., Michigan. There is much more in the article, but I thought I'd better get a correction out here about his parentage.

Thurston died in 1894 in Livingston Co., Michigan. After his wife, Hannah Sawyer, died on April 19, 1864, he married Nellie Pratt of Argentine, Michigan. Nellie Pratt died on November 22, 1870. Thurston Simmons then married Jennie McFarlin on Nov. 13, 1871. Jennie was the daughter of William McFarlin, of Delaware Co., Ohio.
