Brookside Cemetery, 501 N Union St, Tecumseh MI
From "Beyond the Boulevard: Historic Buildings of Tecumseh, Michigan"Diane E ProctorTecumseh Area Historical Society 1996
pg 103Brookside Cemetery - N. Union St.Tecumseh's 1st burial ground was a small plot at Kilbuck & Ottawa St (present site of Elliott Park).By 1853 space was inadequate & seemed too close to downtown - land was purchased & platted for a new cemetery & within 10 years all 282 graves from the former site were moved to the new Brookside Cemetery.
Regarding the stone "In Memory of Ebenezer Thorp......,"-- no such stone was mentioned in the DAR Vital Records Collection of the 1930's, so likely this was a relatively recent memorial.I found no data to support the claim that any Ebenezer Thorp who died in Tecumseh, Michigan, had any service in the American Revolution, so I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean.
