DEERFIELD, Mich. -
Elria F. Roe, age 89, of Deerfield died Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, 2008, at his home.
Born Oct. 23, 1918, in Deerfield, Elria was the son of Gloyd and Bernice (Cousino) Roe. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He married Bessie Pospisil, Aug. 4, 1942, at St. Alphonsus Church in Deerfield. He was an avid hunter and trapper. He was a member of the Dundee Hunting Club, a senior member of the Woodchuck Club in Petersburg, the Dundee V.F.W. and the Deerfield American Legion. He enjoyed playing poker and cards. His nickname was “Maverick.”
Survivors include his wife, three sons, Raymond (Donna) of Deerfield, Richard (Cindy) of Sullivan, Ill., and Robert (Shirley) of Plymouth; a daughter, Donna (Robert) Ruswinkle of Medina, Ohio; a sister, Audrey Brown of Blissfield; nine grandchildren, Kevin, Jamie, Amy, Lori, Julie, Renaye, Ron, Richard and Ryan, and several great- and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elwin “Bill” and Donald.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Capaul Funeral Home in Ida, where a Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. He will lie in state at St. Alphonsus Church, Deerfield, on Friday from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Fr. Jack Loughran will officiate. Burial will be at St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Deerfield, with Deerfield American Legion Post 392 conducting graveside services.
Memorial contributions for Mr. Roe may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
