Sister Hebestreit, O.P. Obit
ADRIAN — Sister Marie Immaculata Hebestreit, formerly known as Margaret Mary Hebestreit, died on Dec. 26, 2007, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 79 years of age and in the 62nd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation.
Sister Marie Immaculata was born in Detroit, Mich., to Robert and Florence (Lovelace) Hebestreit. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, Mich., and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian, and a Master of Education Degree in Reading from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz.
Sister spent 41 years ministering in education in Henderson and Las Vegas; Nev.; Chicago and Rockford, Ill.; Albuquerque, N.M.; Winslow and Douglas, Ariz.; Los Angeles and Delano, Calif. In 1991 Sister lived in a private residence in Tucson, Ariz., and became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in Adrian in 1999.
Sister Marie Immaculata is survived by a brother, Bob Hebestreit of Melvindale, Mich., and three sisters, Joyce Derian of Trenton, Mich., Jean Suzor of Allen Park, Mich., and Katherine Kelly of Riverview, Mich. She was preceded in death by a great aunt, Sister M. Loretta Waldecker, also an Adrian Dominican Sister.
Visitation is from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, in the Gathering Space of St. Catherine Chapel at the Dominican Life Center, followed by Vigil Prayer at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Liturgy will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007. Burial will be in the Congregation cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian.
