I read that in the 1850-1860 period there was a severe drought in the southern part of Michigan, was Lenawee county one of those counties. My husband's ancestors, John and Susan (Osborn) left the county about then and came to California. They were here in Burnt Ranch, Trinity County, in 1860 when they were on the census for Burnt Ranch. Maybe this was why.
Does anyone know anything about this drought?

Thank You
