John, my interest in your message isn't the Emmons family, but your own name and your mention of Lapeer County, MI.
My great-grandfather David Graham had a sister Isabella who married Samuel Denning. Following is all I know about them:
Isabella, born January 26, 1844, in Ohio, died August 29, 1927, at Otter Lake, Lapeer County, MI; married September 27, 1865, in Huntington County, IN, to Samuel Denning. Sam was a Civil War veteran. He met Isabella when he stopped for a drink of water at a school where she was teaching. He was born in December 1843, and died September 1, 1911, at Otter Lake, MI. 2 children. (I don't know the names of the children.)
A message posted by Helen Gaff Denning on the Denning family forum (#448, 10/18/2000) mentioned a Samuel J. Denning who was buried at Otter Lake and was a member of the 13th Indiana Infantry during the Civil War. Looks like the right Sam.
I'm really trying to learn more about the Grahams, and I'm hoping that I might learn something through the Denning connection, perhaps through descendants who are still living. Can you help?
