Rowes of Keweenaw Co., Michigan

Researching the Keweenaw Rowes is really confusing. For one thing, there is a lot of duplication of given names.
Can we compare Keweenaw Rowe notes to see if there is any connection?

I have been in contact with Mary Schwoppe (you may have seen her messages on MIHOUGHT) about her Rowe family in Allouez. I am writing you because of your remark in Ancestry.com about your grandfather being from Allouez. Was he a Rowe?

Well, this is what Mary has written:

"My grandmother, MARY ELEANOR ROWE , was born in Allouez to JOHN (a miner
born in England) and MARY ROWE born England) on October 20, 1880. Her
father, John, died (young) in a mining accident, (that is why I was so
excited to find Accident No: 23-1894) and her mother also died (I think)
before my grandmother was married on Christmas day 1900 to DR. (DDS) JAMES
R. WATSON. My grandmother had two sisters (no brothers) who died of TB at a
young age. One of her sisters was NELLIE ROWE, who died at 18 years of age
of TB, at Osceola, 10/26/1901. She is buried in lot 20 at Lake View
Cemetery.

My grandmother raised the son of her other sister, his name was MELVIN ROWE,
and he died of TB in Calumet at age 22 on 08/18/1918, while a student at U
of M. so he was born in 1896, and he is buried in lot 21. . . .on the birth certificate names for Melvin Rowe...seems the sister must have married another Rowe...Father of Melvin was WM ROWE(teamster), mother listed Mary (I think they put my grandmother's name) and the birth was in Fulton, December 14, 1894.

In lot 20 and 21 there are 8 other Rowes buried, besides Nellie and Melvin.
I assume they are all relatives, but I do not know any of the
relationships....none seem to be my missing great grandfather or great
grandmother. Lot 20 was purchased by John Rowe, and Lot 21 was purchased by
Richard Rowe.

The other Rowes in the two cemetery lots are:
Mrs. Grace, 34 Tamarack, 1902
W. J., 1903
William J., 79 Allouez, 1915
Mrs. Annie, 73, Laurium, 1940
Henry C, 61, 1928
James, 66 Mohawk, 1936
Richard, 1901
Richard, Laurium, 1917"

(The above is the family of my ggg-uncle William John Rowe, except for the two Richards--I don't know who they are. And I don't know how William J. would be would be related to Mary's Rowes. I thought I had accounted for all the Rowe from my family when they emigrated from England.)

She continues:
"I have my mother's marriage ( 1932) newspaper articles from the Calumet
papers and "The bride's aunt, MRS. JAMES ROWE, played the piano." I also
know that a related Rowe was on the staff or faculty of MTU at Houghton in
the 1950's, my sister-in-law met him and his wife but remembers nothing
more."

This is what I found on the 1880 census:

Rowe, John Head 37 England
" , Mary Ann Wife 26 "
" , John Son 7 Michigan
" , Jane Dau 3 "
" , Richard Son 1 "
Rowe, Jane Mother 58 England

So, this what I have put together on Mary Schwoppe's family in Allouez:

You mention that your grandfather came from Allouez. Was he a Rowe and does he fit in here any way?

You're probably wondering why I have been writing about Mary Schwoppe's Rowe. Below are my Keweenaw Rowes. The families of the afore-mentioned William John Rowe and his brother Henry (my gg-grandfather who is buried in Eagle River Cemetery). I am really confused as to why the Richards are in Wm. John's family's plot, and whether or not there is a connection between any or all these Keweenaw Rowe families. Do you have any info?
