BLACH aka Black / David / Cux / Horetski / Osepka

Need help to find my Gdad John Blach/Black Polish roots in Poland /Galicia /Austria area, and his migration entry into USA. Not sure if Ellis Island or through Canada.

John born ca. 1891 Poland - died in 1925 Detroit, Michigan. Married Martha Horetski in Detroit in 1917. Martha born 1899 - died 1928. They had Five (5) children: John Jr., Leon, Edmond, Walter & Edward. Edward is my father, born in Detroit in 1924.

Blach aka Black are the names shown on my dad's Michigan birth certificate.
Blach is the legal name all my dad's siblings go by.
Blach is the legal name all my family uses.

The MICH 1920 Census records show the name "Black", but I'm thinking it was written "phonetically", not literally. Soundex no. is B420.
MICH 1920 Census shows Gdad from Austria.
MICH 1920 Census shows under question of Citizenship the years 1911 NA 1917. Not sure if 1911 means his arrival year ... 1917 is the year married to Gma. Martha
MICH 1920 Census shows a boarder named "Frank Osepka" from Austria living with them.
Haven't found where Mr. Osepka fits in the family picture yet.

Gdad John death certificate shows the following:
Full Name: John Blach aka John Black
Birthplace: Poland
Name of Father: John Black
Birthplace of Father: Poland
Maiden Name of Mother: Mary Cux
Birthplace of Mother: Poland

Gdad's brother and sister also came over from old country, I think they all arrived together, but that's just speculation: Sophie (who married Mr. Silva and resided in NY) and Peter (who married EVA ? also lived in Detroit, MI area).

Peter Blach family: Sophie (married John David), Victoria (married Adam Tutro), William "Bruno aka Bozo" (married Chrystle, Stella (married Mr. ?? Rogers), and Viola (married Mr. ?? Twarzek).

Gma Martha's sister Mary told my dad she heard Gdad John came from the Galicia area. Back then I guess Gma Martha's family didn't bother about where John came from or why. But I can read history, and back then many Galician's/Polish/Austrian's left their country for better financial futures and freedom.

I'm just beginning to gather info in order to contact Sophie & Peter's children (if they are still living) in hopes they have some stories and add'l info about Gdad John roots.

I think I've posted on every board imagineable, but I'll recheck and post again if necessary.

I haven't looked enough in Vital Records Dept in Lansing, MI, for Naturalization etal papers on Gdad John. However, I have a copy of "Preliminary Form for Petition for Naturalization" filled out by Gma Martha which she indicates Gdad John was dead at the time she filled the form. I'm not certain what this form means. At the top of this Petition someone wrote M.W. Act of 9/22/22. Gma Martha was born in USA, so I'm assuming she was a natural citizen. However, Gdad John probably wasn't, and I think this means this will effect his children USA citizenship? I'm just not sure historically what this means.

Thanks for responding from the boards. If you have other suggestions for me, please write.

God Bless

Sally Blach
