Hi Ken!
If you go to the following free website, you will see some info on your COTTONs: www.familysearchlabs.org You will need adobe acrobat for viewing the actual records (click on the little black box next to the name)
I used the advanced search and stuck with "COTTON" in INgham County, Michigan.
You will see the marriage record of a Maud Cotton Hathaway to Bert Hale. Her parents were George COTTON and unknown Spaulding.
You will also see the death record for Bell, who was a teacher.
Vernor CoTTON married Emma Kensey.
Also, FYI, there is another free web site just launched: www.seekingmichigan.org. Has many death certificates on line for viewing, but is not complete yet. These are for the years 1897-1920.
