Hello,

My name is Marilyn. I am searching for descendants of Perrin Brownell and wife, Elpha--last known to live in Leslie, Ingham County, MI in the 1930 Census.

Perrin Brownell is the son of James P. Brownell and Jennie Brown. I am a Brown cousin doing research on our Brown family. Jennie is the daughter of Harmon Gilson Brown who was born Feb. 10th 1830 in Herkimer Co., NY and d. 1894 in Doland, S.D.

Harmon Gilson Brown was married 3 times (first 2 wives died) and he had 3 children by 1st wife Harriet VanBlaricum, she died Cayuga County, NY in Jan. 1865--Dr. John Charles Brown,b. ca 1853 died Battle Creek, MI 1918, George Harmon Brown, d. IN and Jennie (aka Jane) E. Brown b. ca 1861 (m. James P. Brownell in Steuben Co., IN in 1880) DOD unknown and place;

Harmon Gilson Brown then married 2nd Margaret Melissa Tanner of Weedsport, Cayuga County, NY and had 3 sons, 2 lived to old age, Orla Almond Brown and Calvin Augustus Brown, a son Harmon Gillie died in infancy in Steuben County, IN. All 3 sons born in IN.

Harmon Gilson Brown then married Carrie M. Wallin and had Melza Clinton Brown in IN in 1880 and Guy Harmon Brown was born in Doland, S.D. A daughter, Carrie was born in 1893 in S.D. died in 1898 in Steuben County, IN--her father, Harmon Gilson Brown died in Doland, S.D. on August 20th, 1894, a year or so after her birth.

This is what I do know of Perrin Brownell after 1900.

I have found Perrin Brownell in all census inf. to 1930. Apparently he married a girl from Montana named Elpha (Young?--- see below for a possible wife named Elpha Young born Montana and her family).

My Dad always talked of Montana re. the Brown family, but I thought he meant his Uncle Calvin Augustus Brown, son of Harmon Gilson and Maggie (Tanner) Brown, who lived in Montana and WA states.

I have found, online, the WWI draft registration for Perrin Brownell (spelled Perin at times) in Oklahoma when he was living with his sister, Allie (Brownell) Smith, wife of Owen Smith.

In 1920 he is living with his sister, Allie (m. to Owen Smith) and her 3 sons, Laverne, age 16, b. Ohio, Clarke, age 13, b. OK and Elden, age 10, b. OK. All mentioned in "US BROWNS" booklet.
