I purchased an antique photo album several years ago(in the Detroit area) because of its beautiful cover. There were several photos in the album, but I didn't think too much about them. I just attended a seminar on dating photos and I was so fascinated that when I got home, I pulled out the old album and began examining the photos. They are so interesting! I would love, more than anything, to find some descendants of these people. Here's what I can tell you: There were 20 photos in this album. I would date them late 1890's to early 1900's. Unfortunately, there is only one photo that has any writing on the back. It's in pencil and very difficult to decipher. It looks like (perhaps) "Tava Janse" or "Janie" and another word whose first letter I'm not sure of, but the rest is "-iskiias". The majority of these photos do, however, have photographer's identification on the front. One is Haefer, Hancock, Mich. One says C.A. Silfven & Co., Hancock, L. Linden & S. Range. (A second photo has no marks, but is taken in the same studio, based on the carpet, background, and plant in the photo.) Two say Goodfellow, South Range, Mich. One says Taylors Studio, South Range, Mich. Two are Taylor and Goodfellow, South Range, Mich. One says A.L. Wortley, Houghton, Mich. One says J. W. Nara, Calumet, Mich. Six of them say L. Auer, Hancock, Mich. One says D. Reitzel, Sudbury, Ontario. Then, in the back of the album were two smaller photos; one of a young couple (most likely husband and wife) taken by Hugo Lauren, Vasa {Finland) and a second of the same couple (who seem to be a bit older) with two small boys. The second photo was taken by Sofia Hjerpe, Laihia (Finland). All the pictures are of children or young adults; it doesn't look like anyone is beyond their 30's at the latest. It does seem too that the same people are in some of the pictures, but at different ages. Or else there is a strong family resemblance. Anyway, if you think these may "belong" to you, please contact me. I will be happy to scan and email the photos. If they turn out to be your family members, I will be more than happy to send these to you. Notify Administrator about this message?
