Again, this is a bad case of covering up. It was later reported that the men did not have guns. No striker was ever charged nor were any of the shooters.

Striking Miners attack Non union men guarded by Sheriff
Calumet Mi. Aug 2
In a fight between striking trammer at Michigan Copper Mine at Rockland, and miners who were going to work, under the protection of Sheriff McFarland and a heavy guard of deputies, one man was killed and another mortally wounded. Several more were shot. Forty of the strikers are under arrest in the town hall.
The trammers were armed with stones, clubs, knives and revolvers. In the general melee several shots were fired by strikers. The sheriff and deputies then returned the fire. The fight raged fiercely for a time but the trammers wer soon beaten back. Many of them escaped. Owing to the fact that many of the wounded were carried from the field by strikers , it is difficult to sum up the casualties.
