William Eddy Carr Alma College
It is with deep regret that I write to say that my father, William Eddy Carr, died Sunday morning, April 2, in Alpena MI.He had just had his 89th birthday last Sunday.
He was born March 26, 1917, to Waldo Eugene and Clara Eddy Carr.He graduated from Alma College in 1941, served in the Army Air Corps during World War Two.He played football one last time, in the Spaghetti Bowl, Florence Italy, New Years Day, 1945, for the 12th Air Force. He married Margaret Davison in 1947.He was a Math teacher and a football coach, as well as a coach of other sports, during his career at Alpena High School, Alma College, and Bay City Handy High School. He retired in 1979, and he and my mother spent their summers at the cottage he built at Hubbard Lake and their winters at Pharr, TX.Like his ancestors, he had a love of the land, and a talent for carpentry, building houses and furniture during his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret, son David (Connie) Carr, and daughter Christine (Ted) Reese. He also is survived by the following grandchildren; Jennie and Sarah Carr, Megan (David) Rios, Elizabeth Reese, Jason (Lauren) Reese, Stacie (Jody) Desander, and great-grandchildren; David William Alejos Rios, Alexis Ranee Desander, Nicole April, Brandon Paul and Marissa Clare Reese.Bill was fortunate to see and to hold all his littlest grandchildren just 2 weeks ago, for the first time.He will be particularly missed by his little dog, Sammy.
Bill will be cremated with a memorial service to be held on Saturday, April 8, at the Presbyterian Church, Alpena MI., at 11 a.m.
