In Search of Info on My Maternal Grandfather-Name Unknown

Hello!

My name is Allen T. Wood. I was adopted at birth. I met my biological father for the first time today...at age 56. He gave me the following information about my maternal grandfather (my biological mother died 21 years ago and I only met her once-she died suddenly two months later. I did not ask her about her parents at our first meeting thinking I had plenty of time to ask about it ).

His name was something like Laurie. He was a prominent businessman in the Flint area possibly in the auto-related field, perhaps a car dealership, or parts, etc. somehow tied to the auto industry. He died in the early 50's. There was a court case in Genessee County in which my mother, Eleanor McRill, filed a motion to try to win some of his inheritance, which eventually proved futile. She had been abandoned by her mother and she was eventually adopted by the McRill's, therefore she had also been cut off from her father. Her birth certificate lists her birthplace as Flushing, MI.
I am trying to find out whatever information on him so I can learn my mother's real maiden name, and begin to research my genealogical history.
With the information my father provided me with today, I can now trace my father's side, I believe. I would be eternally grateful for any help someone could give me...if only to tell me where to look in the records.
My email address is awood3@twmi.rr.com Thank you.
