Just a couple of notes. There are inherent errors in "The Past and Present of Eaton County," as I had previously stumbled on the information provided there by my gg-grandparents David and Adaline Sheldon. Some of the information given, i.e. where there parents lived the remaining years of their lives, and where David and Adaline lived when originally moving to Michigan, was information found to be in error. They originally moved to Clinton County as proved by census records, and his parents are at rest in LaGrange Township Cemetery, in LaGrange, Ohio. I've been there and have posted photographs of the headstones on find-a-grave. Although there are errors, probably a little dramatized, the writing is, nonetheless, an important historical record. I have found that the name Mary is synonymous with Polly... just a little tid bit of genealogical information. Your message otherwise caught my interest because I am a descendent of Israel Mead m. Clarisa Austin of Clinton County. They are my gg-grandparents and are at rest in the Riverside Cemetery just outside of Elsie. Their daughter Lucinda M. Mead married 1) Sherman and then 2) Reed Page who were brothers, but she married Reed after Sherman passed away. They gave birth to my grandmother Nellie Anne Page, who is at rest here in Mesa, Arizona. The known authority on the Mead family is Jerrine Mead of Elsie. She lives on Main St. there, and I cannot give you her phone number here. She has notebook after notebook and no email. I don't know the extent of information she might have available for Eaton County Mead names. You might try the Eaton County Genealogical Society, with volunteers available most of the weekdays at their phone number. See their website at http://www.rootsweb.com/~miecgs/ You can tell 'em I sent you (a member) but little good that will do, ha ha. Kidding aside, they have a great resource of information about people in the county. They could also locate cemetery records. You ancestors are not in the Walton or Kalamo cemetery books, ... I checked. Have you tried to write to obtain a death cert through the State of Michigan? I wish you luck and hope the folks at the ECGS can be of more help.
