The various spelling of that name were origally ZUFELT ,ZOFELD from Hessen Germany. They settled in Duchess county NY and some movedto Canada as loyalists. The ones in Ontario retained the name of SHEWFELT. I have a geneolgy of the family if you have specific questions............Len
