BURT, village of or Lake, a rooming house or hotel in 1880?

Burt was a very small place according to French`s maps of 1895. Where can I get a description of this area in 1880. Was it a resort, a work camp setting for perhaps lumbering, some other? William Spencer operated a rooming house there. He was b. in 1830 according to the census. Another William Spencer was also in Cheboygan, Cheboygan, managing a hotel also in 1880, he was born in 1831. Please tell me about Cheboygan village with it`s population of 6000 in 1895. Both are shown in the Cheboygan MI. 1830 census with some children named Georgie(girl) and Dixon. I will be searching for Dixon Spencer also. Thanks, Wendell Spencer
