Thomas, Thanks for the help. The Arthur Smith in the 1850 census is not the Arthur Smith I'm looking for. My Arthur Smith was still in Luzerne County, PA. in 1850. The child of Arthur Smith who died in 1872 in Cass County could very well be the son of my Arthur Smith. Thanks for the Michigan Death Index website. Your help is very much appreciated.
