My ancestor, Henry Kreis, married his second wife, Henrietta Hannamon/Housmann on 20 Aug 1906 in St. Joseph, Berrien, MI even though both were living in Chicago, IL at the time.
Also, Frederick Hannaman, brother of Henrietta, married Anna Phillips on 25 Jul 1905 in St. Joseph.
I wonder why they crossed Lake Michigan to marry in St. Joseph. Was the waiting period shorter than in Chicago? Was the license fee lower?
Any information on this would be so appreciated.
