Local records re Sharp
Posted by: A. Sharp (ID *****7504) Date: July 02, 2011 at 05:03:24
  of 693

Julius and Samuel Sharp were living in Niles Twp in 1860, with land in Sec. 16, 17 and 18. Julius obtained E 1/2 of SW 1/4 Sec 17, T7S, R17W by grant dated 1 Jul 1836.

Online census records show that Samuel was born about 1805. He married Abigail Laremor (b 1801-2) in Wayne Co., IN, in 1831. In 1840 they were in La Porte Co., IN, just south of Berrien, but were located in Berrien by 1843. They had four children -- James L. or T. Sharp (m Lucy, dau of Guy Griswold); Sarah N. (14 in 1850); Martha E. (26 in 1870); and Manson P. (4 in 1850). Samuel died in Berrien in Feb 1880. Nothing more is known of his wife and three younger children.

Is there an estate record showing his heirs and their location? A deed by the heirs selling the land (and showing by the acknowledgment certificate their location). His land in 1887 is on the plat map as B. Geyer.

Likewise, Julius. He is shown in Niles Cem as 1823-1877, although the censuses for 1850-70 show him born c 1815. He married Mary J. Lauman in La Porte Co., IN, in 1840. All but one of their children are unaccounted for.

Martha A. (b IN 1840-41); Mary M. (b 1843 d 1862); Jonathan H. (b MI 1844-45); Philip M. (b MI 1849); Henry E. (b MI 1853-54); Ida M. (b MI 1857-58); Charles R. (b MI 1860); Raldon [?] E. (b 1864-65).

None of them can be found in the 1880 census. The original grant in Sec 17 is shown as Elmer Butts in 1887, and the land in Sec 16 as Eliza House. Is there an estate record showing his heirs and their location? A deed by the heirs selling the land (and showing by the acknowledgment certificate their location).
