James Ahere b. 1809 Scotland

Looking for anyone who might know where this family came from. James bought land in Berrien County in 1852. His wife was named Maria or Mary. They had at least five children, James Ahere, John Ahere, Maria Ahere, Magarite Ahere and Nancy Ahere. He died in 1885 in Berrien County. His parents were both from Scotland. His wife was born in Ohio. The children all lived in Oronoko Township on the land he bought. I can not find this name in most of my usual genealogy places. It may be mispelled and may actually been Ayer pronounced with a brough? Any help would be appreciated. One of these daughters married or had a child by Tracy Harper. Her name was Ella M. Harper.
