I am on the trail of the family of Frederick Close and his wife Margaret (last name unknown) who lived in Amherst, Erie County, NY at the time of the 1850 census. They may have had a son, also named Frederick, born in late 1850 or early 1851. Frederick Sr. must have died around that time, because Margaret and her new husband Richard MILLER were living in Seneca County, Ohio in 1860 and in Sandusky County, Ohio in 1870. Margaret Close had two children in the 1850 census -- Margaret and Philip SCHEUER, ages 8 and 7. Were they her children by a former marriage? Frederick Close and his stepfather Richard Miller apparently moved to LaSalle, Monroe County, Michigan by the time of the 1880 census. Margaret was absent from this census; Richard Miller had a new young wife, Anna. Frederick had married Mary KLINE. In 1900 Frederick and Mary had moved to Bay City, Bay County, Michigan and the family had grown to include Margaret, William, Mamie, Laura, Anna, George, Ralph, Edwin, and Nelda. (There was a daughter Susan in the 1880 census not listed in 1900.) Frederick apparently died around 1903-1909 because in 1910 Mary, a widow, was living in Bay City with her numerous children. Does anyone know anything about the parents of Frederick Close of Bay City? Was his mother Margaret? Was he born in Erie County, New York -- Amherst or Buffalo? Did he have several half-siblings surnamed SCHEUER and MILLER? The name "Scheuer" has been spelled various different ways; many descendants now use "Shire." Thank you.
