I inherited, thru my great aunt, a packet of her best friend, Manola Shirley (ROOT)REND-PALMER. Her father, Capt. Frank ROOT, was a sea captain. Enclosed were: documents, pictures, newspaper clippings, and genealogy. I am in the process of getting all this copied and will mail all papers to the archives at Bowling Green University, Historical Collections of the Great Lakes. I have been trying to locate any descendants.

William HOTCHKISS, b. abt 1826, CT., Married Harriett Jane (?). Children: Alice May, b. 1862, married Francis Desnoyer ROOT; Agnes(?), twin to Alice; Kate, b. abt. 1852; Lewis, male, b. abt. 1859.
This family can be found in 1870 census, MI, Bay Co., Portsmouth. In 1880 & 1900 census, Bay Co., MI, William J. HOTCHKISS. In 1910, Bay Co., Bay. William J. HOTCHKISS, listed as grandfather, in house-hold of Clifford WALTER, 37y, b. MI and his wife, Minnie, 37y, b. Germany. Clifford WALTER & wife Minnie, also listed in 1900 census, same town.

?Does anyone know the parentage of Clifford WALTER? Looking for more data on family of William HOTCHKISS & Harriett Jane (?) Would like to know her maiden name.

Alice May HOTCHKISS, b. 1862, Pontiac, Oakland, MI; married, 1888, in Chicago, Cook, IL, to Francis "Frank" Desnoyer ROOT. Alice, d. 1930, Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa, MI. Capt. Frank ROOT (1849-1925) was the son of Lieut. William & Emily Jane (WHEELOCK) ROOT. [Root Genealogy]

Any assistance would be appreciated and thank you!
