Bay City, 1879, St. Joseph's Church

I am searching for information on Jeddy Canell who married Aurelia Duford at St. Joseph's Church (Bay City, MI) in 1879. In the record, Jeddy Canell is Teddy Carrelle. Also, in the 1880 census for Bay City, he is called Ischlich Barrell. In his children's death certificates, he is called Jediah Canell, Frederick Cannell, and Gideon Quesnelle. What do you do when you encounter so many different names?? Did he not want to be found?? Family legend says two things about him. One, that he was half Algonquin Indian, and two, that after he divorced Aurelia, he moved to St. Paul, MN to run a brothel. Does anyone know where I should look or what I should do to figure him out? Will the 1879 marriage certificate give his parents' names?
