(flag) Charles Keith Mayberry of Essexville passed away on January 31, 2003, age 77 years. He was born in Milton Freewater, Oregon on December 13, 1925 to the late Leslie Albert and Zina (Forbes) Mayberry.
He was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife, LaDene, of 55 years; his two daughters, Susan and William Nieusma of Grand Rapids and Jolene and Don Hay of West Jefferson, Ohio; his son, David Mayberry of Driggs, Idaho; and his sister, Donna Jean Mayberry of Lima, Ohio. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters-in-law: Marvin and Bernita Miller, Max and Pat Miller and Jerry and Aunalee Miller; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was a member of First Congregatioal Church where he served as a Deacon, Trustee and Moderator and worked with Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels. He served his country in the Army in the Philippines during World War II and returned to earn a B.S. degree from Bowling Green State University. Mr. Mayberry was the assistant administrator for Lima (Ohio) Memorial Hospital and moved to Bay City with his family in 1962 to become administrator at Samaritan Hospital. He retired in 1992 from the position of Risk Manager of Bay Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Bay City Lodge No. 88 B.P.O.E. and was an avid fisherman and golfer.
Memorial Service will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church. The Rev. Whitney O. Dempsey and Sister Kay Tardiff will officiate. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to First Congregational Church in lieu of flowers. The family will receive friends at the Penzien & Steele Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m.
