I have been trying to access a list of naturalization papers on the vital records part of MiGenWeb with no results. My great grandfather SWAN WILSON entered the United States 1881 and married MATHILDA CARLSON who entered 1887.(1930 Census) Mathilda's death certificate gives her maiden name and Halend, Sweden as former country. She may have married John Nelson in a first marriage and definitely had a son Alfred. John died working as a brakeman on the New York Central railroad in the Standish area. She received some compensation from the railroad. Swan had a first family. I have not found any information about them. I did not find Swan Wilson on earlier census although I am sure he was in Lincoln Township farming. IS HE PERHAPS LISTED ON MICHIGAN CENSUS BEFORE 1930? Oh, something to make this more confusing is that Swan is said to have changed his name probably before he entered the United States (possibly through Canada). It may have originally been Sven or William Anderson. There was some kind of Danish Military service that didn't agree with the officials of Sweden. I believe this is true because it was told to me at the family farm by William Wilson, my great uncle, his son. The name John Anderson comes from an older now deceased great aunt. There was also talk about him purchasing a deceased man's ticket and using his Wilson name after entering the U.S. This was not talked about much but the information is necessary to trace the family in Sweden. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Carol Teal
