Looking for help in locating my paternal ancestor's origins. My Dad always thought there was a connection with Antrim or Dublin so am not sure about this. My grandfather was born in Liverpool in 1872 to parents, James REID married to Elizabeth SMITH who married in Liverpool in 1870. Their respective fathers' were Alexander REID, Cooper and Thomas SMITH, Labourer. I found an Alexander REID, Cooper living in Liverpool, with his family in the 1871 census which reads as follows:- 1871 census shows:- 29 Sherwood Street, Scotland Liverpool St Matthias Parish sharing 1 house Alexander REID Head 38 Cooper b. Ireland abt.1833 Margaret REID Wife 36 b. Ireland abt.1835 Alexander Son 18 Labourer b. Ireland abt.1853 Thomas 18 Seaman b. Ireland abt.1853 Patrick 17 Labourer b. Ireland abt.1854 Margaret daug 11 b. Ireland abt.1860 Andrew Son 7 b.Liverpool abt.1864 Mary Dau 4 b.Liverpool abt.1867 Also at this address are the following families (all of Irish descent) :- White, (H) Kearley, Boyle If this is my great, great grandfather and his family then my great grandfather, James REID, would be aged about 21/22 and be away at sea by this cenus date and is not mentioned. My research is now taking me to Ireland and I would really appreciate any help I can get. The LUCAS connection is shown in the 1881 census for Liverpool which shows my grandfather, Christopher Reid b. 1872, as living in Liverpool with his aunt and uncle, Charles and Mary LUCAS both born in Ireland, unfortunately, it does not state where in Ireland. Does anybody know of or is connected to any of the above please contact me. Notify Administrator about this message?
