Samuel Hamilton (born 1812 in Ireland-1874 Alpena) and his wife Margaret Armstrong (born 1813 Ireland- 1903) arrived in Alpena County about 1870. Previously they had lived in West Hawkesbury, Prescott County, Ontario.

When they moved to Alpena, they were accompanied by some of their children. They were: Anne Jane Hamilton (1836- ) who married William Cousins (1836-1905); Edward Hamilton (1843- ) who married Harriet Downing (1847- ); James Hamilton (1845-1899) whose wife was Catherine; Samuel Hamilton (1847-1905) whose wife was Margaret; Robert Armstrong Hamilton (1850-1915) who married Barbara Anne Shreeves (c1858-1892); Johnston Hamilton (1852-1896) who married Isabella Cochran (1850-1935); William Francis Hamilton (1854-1939) who married Hanna Prophet (1850-1896); and Thomas A. Hamilton (1859- ) who married Etta McGibbon (? -1885).

Some members of this family left Alpena in the late 1890ís. Others stayed in Alpena and their children married into families with the names Bartley, Crawford, Depew, Drew, Johnson, and White.

I am descended from Samuel Hamilton and Margaret Armstrong and wish to exchange information about this family.
