Hello Lisa,

Maybe I can help you with your J. Storms ancestor. I am doing research on the members of the 13th Michigan Infantry, and just yesterday I was in Gun Plain Township Hall, Plainwell, Allegan County, Michigan, researching burial plots for members of the 13th Michigan in Hillside Cemetery, so I can photograph the headstones. There is a William J. STORMS buried there, although I have not visited his gravesite yet

I don't think there was a STORMS in the 18th Michigan . Here is a roster of the 13th Michigan, showing William J. STORMS in Company A.

Here is the text about William J. STORMS from the 13th Michigan Infantry:
Enlisted in Company A, Thirteenth Infantry, as Corporal, October 23, 1861, at Prairieville, for 3 years, age 24. Mustered Januany 17, 1862. Re-enlisted January 18, 1864, at Chattanooga, Tenn. Mustered January 28, 1864. Sick at Chattanooga, Tenn., September 20, 1864. No further record.

Where did you get the information he was discharged "on account of Insanity" ?

Lisa, if William is your ancestor, I'll email you a photo of his headstone if you would like. I hope to get that done in about a week.
