I live in Spruce, just north of Lincoln, MI. I am searching for my husbands family. My mother-in-law (now 92 years old) doesn't have that great of a memory and often gets things confused, but she was born in Killmaster. Her mother, Maude Ruth Crosby, was raised there and went to school there. Maude married Raymond Smith in Alcona Co., MI. I thought by getting a history of Killmaster, I could find some info on the family. Many are buried in Twin Lakes Cemetery. Maude & Raymond were married in 1914 in Harrisville, Alcona Co., MI. Their first 4 children were born here, then they moved to Caro in Tuscola Co., MI where the majority of the family comes from. Maude was the daughter of Harry Crosby & Viola Thompson. She had siblings John Arthur (d. infant), Roy Thompson Crosby (lived here & d. Alpena), Estella Naomi (d. infant), Bessie Grace (mar Earl Beaubien and lived near Maude in Caro---they stayed very close).

I have tried the libraries in Lincoln & Harrisville. Their genealogy department leaves a lot to be desired and I get no response from the Alcona County Review.

Surnames in this family include: Dewar, Stockton, Ginder, Smith, Crosby, Thompson. Do any of these sound familiar?

Interestingly enough, I recently found what is left of Killmaster (according to my husband) quite by accident while taking a drive. There is the Quaker Hill Farm which is supposedly right where the town used to be. There was also a one-room school house that Maude went to school at. Do you know if there is an old school history or records somewhere? My next stop is the Courthouse for info.

Any help would be much appreciated.
