Hi ,
Soundex is what your driver license uses.
The first letter of the last name and the next three numbers are a code on the other letters. It's like a index for last names.
The soundex is on a microfilm of last name then first.It covers all of the state.You can find relatives in different counties,then using the census code you can go right to page and line for the person your looking for on the census microfilm.
