Hi Lupita,
This is getting really interesting because their could be another connection this way.
When my ggrandfather Jose Federico Gonzalez came to the states, I know he worked and lived in Blythe, Indio and Brawley
before going to San Jose.
Even though he and Carmen were seperated, she also lived there before moving to LA and her sister Rosa de la Garza raised her family in Indio and Brawley.Rosa actually married a Gonzalez, but she always kept her maiden name and only used it, although her children went by Gonzalez. We used to visit them when I was very young and later lost track of them.Only recently was I able to find my cousins and one of the sons still lives in the old house.
The story is that Rosa was married to Tomatito (sp?)Gonzalez in Mx and he was shot and killed while crossing the river smuggling guns during the revolution.Jose Federico might have been involved in this smuggling too, but not sure.I don't even know if Jose and Tomatito were related but I'm going to contact my cousin Soccorro and see if they may have been brothers. Two brothers marrying two sisters.
Rosa's daughters name was Evagelina (Eva)and she married a chinese man (Wong)that owned a grocery store in Brawley.Don't think they stayed married long but they had a daughter named Maria de Jesus Wong.Tia Eva also adopted a daughter, Soccorro.
I get confused with all the names sometimes, but I think another of Rosa's daughters was named Aguipita and she moved back to Mexico after marrying a Rios.
Tia Rosa lived into her late 80's and died in Brawley in the 1870s.She used to be a housekeeper for a priest. She as well as Carmen never learned how to speak English.I've seen pics of her when she was young and she was dressed in very nice clothing and was obviously well educated judging by her beautiful handwriting.
I have picures of all these people that I'd be happy to share with you if any of these names ring a bell.
As soon as I send this I know I'll think of more info to tell you or correct, but for now, this is probably enough.
Regards
Sandy
