Familia Estopinan-Estupinan
Javier R. Avitia posted the following response on the Spain message forum:
"Fernando, By chance, I noticed that Diego Gonzales Estupinan appears in the 1604 of Nueva Vizcaya (present day Mexican States of Durango and Chihuahu (sic)Diego appears in Real de Cuencame (present day Cuencame in the state o Durango) as a "minero sin hacienda".
Have you traced any of your ancestors to Mexico in the early 1600's?Javier"

"To Javier R. Avitia - Many thanks for your message re Diego Gonzales Estupinan,Was the 1604 date in a census, or a passenger list?Have found Estupinan in Mexico (Jalisco, Zacatecas, Durango)and elsewhere in the Americas as far back as the 16th century but so far connecting them directly back to the Canary Islands or peninsular Spain has been a "brick wall".Feel certain they were from Aguimes, Ingenio or Telde on Gran Canaria, or from Jerez de la Frontera on the peninsula (near Cadiz).Would be deeply indebted to anyone who can help solve this puzzle. Your clue may help do that. [email protected]
(Fernando J. Estopinal III"
