My wife's mother is an Esparza from San Benito, Cameron County, Texas. Her line goes back several generations in South Texas and then to Lampazos, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and then to Saltillo, Coahuila where her ancestor Jose Eligio Manuel Esparza Arispe was born 0n 13 Apr 1730 to Domingo Gervacio de Esparza and Maria Gertrudis de Arispe. Several leads point to Zacatecas as the probable state where might be from; also I suspect he might end up being from the "Ruiz de Esparza" surname.
